Elvington, which ranked as my favourite museum, until my last visit when what i consider the pride of the museum the Halifax rebuild seemed buried within other airframes.Which for me personally was very dissapointing. Is this still the case,or has she been freed 😉 visit possibly pending

No she’s all locked up safe from light fingers PP.
The Halifax was perfectly visible yesterday…

Oh yes. Actually quite therapeutic sat on the bomb bay tanks listening to the rain drumming on the roof!
Yep externally the Maid looks fine. One of our chaps thought there may be an aerial or 2 missing but I don’t know the aircraft well enough to say for sure.
Are folk robbing bits off this while it’s parked up?

Working in the rain = proper British aircraft restoration! 😀
Did the Nimrod still look ‘all there’?
By: Blue_2 - 19th September 2010 at 17:52
Wasn’t much fun today in the rain. Although a V-bomber makes a nice umbrella!

T/O, you are a bad man! :diablo:
…
😀 I know, but not as bad as some would lead you to believe – aircraft (aviation) preservation should be fun!! 😉

109- Apparently the bloke built it because he wanted to and he could. Fair play to him. Was dismantled to appear in the static at some little fly in down south, RIAT iirc. Ditto the Hurricane. 109 is about to be bolted back together. Also if anyone’s interested the pink Buccaneer’s getting a repaint…
Mossie- Mr Agar is still plugging away with her, from speaking to him she’s not all that far off…
As to the Halifax issue, all I’ll say is that iirc 536’s outer wings were too corroded to use but the centre section was ok. If you’ve ever seen the faces of the veterans who’ve come to see their old warhorse after nearly 70 years you’d know it was a well worthwhile project. For this reason alone I won’t have a bad word said about it from those who choose to knock the efforts to resurrect what was at the time an extinct species.
And yes the Victor (and the Nimrod) gets lots of love and tlc. It may be chucking it down but I’ll soon be heading across to get my weekly ‘fix’… 🙂

Your opinion only I take it?
Without the centre section of TG536, there would be no Halifax standing there and there would have been no chance for old-Halifax aircrew to relive memories
A bit harsh don’t you think?
But that is just my opinion mind you.

Having spoken at length to many who were”involved” its 100% fact.

they had the chance to make a noise and save TG536(berlin airlift survivor) which had languished on catterick fire dump for years, instead they ripped the wings off intending to use them for their Halifax…
Not a nice post, especially I would think for anyone linked with the Halifax project.
The Hastings is perfectly well represented now with four preserved, three of which spread around this country with two indoors.
I would much rather that the bits of an airframe on an RAF fire dump (and let’s not forget many ended their days on one) went into a rebuild of a family type as sole complete representative of the Halifax bomber.

By: piston power! - 18th September 2010 at 11:35

By: Bruce - 18th September 2010 at 11:29

Quite convincing from a distance.
