it sounds like a fair estimate to me, that said should I win the lottery it would remain in the UK without a doubt.

Surely the market value is what something sells for ? I can have it valued at whatever figure but the most current sale information is what people will base
a bid at .

Well I guessed at nearly that p.a. Remember the actual value of something for sale is what someone will pay for it. If you say my house is worth £300,000, it isn’t if it doesn’t sell for more than £200,000.

The actual value is exactly that. Ie what an expert values your property on based on the current market trend.

The money you take for it or are offered and decide to take is exactly that. Offered and accepted. It is not the market value or currently value.

It is possible to take £200,000 for a house valued at £300,000 which is its current market value.

That’s encouraging and, as you say, there have been some stunning rebuilds recently. I think the Fury is my favourite this year!

Not buoyant, but not flat either.

The rebuilders have plenty of work, as has been shown by some stunning completed rebuilds in recent months and years.

The market for good aircraft is still strong. The poorer examples are struggling – a bit like property really!

I don’t claim to know anything about Hurricanes, but isn’t the Indian Air Force Memorial Flight after one?

Quite right.

However, £1.4m is an estimate only made by the auction house. It is not an advertised figure.

My observation of £1.4m being good value is based on the cost of commissioning a rebuild in the current climate. A bespoke rebuild will cost considerably more than this, although G-HURI is an older rebuild, but on the other hand is a more ‘original’ airframe (whatever that means!!)

Bruce

Indeed so. What is your sense of the current climate for vintage warbirds? Buoyant or flat or declining?

Here’s a quick scan of G-HURI from a print I took back in 88 or 89 from memory – looks nice in silver

Isn’t the price of these type of aircraft immaterial?
If you are serious about operating a warbird fighter then you have to have some serious money anyway. What are we talking to operate per year? £300k??
The fact it hasn’t sold means no one wants it or there is not market, not that it’s too expensive IMHO.

Remember HAC have numerous restoration projects underway; DH-9, Yak-1, Audax and the Hind waiting its turn.

All of the above “with the exception of the DH9” are currently for sale.

Bi-Hurri

Ah yes the slip wing. I can’t remember what the trials were for exactly. Thanks Peter that’s a good reminder of why after market add ons are to be avoided.

I did say the Hind wears it much better.

We are a lot better off now than when I started ‘spotting’ and G-AMAU (??) “The Last Of The Many” was the only flying example.

Hawker Restorations have been churning them out steadily for a good few years now.

£1.4 million is just the start. Then you’ve got to insure it, maintain it and fly it…….so perhaps double the amount over 5 years? I too hope it stays here where we will all get a chance to see it. Too few Hurricanes about although there are 3 or 4 restorations to fly in train, aren’t there?

HAC have a penchant for Hawker Bi-planes.

Maybe the Hurricane is simply deficient in the wing department. Whilst it has a beautiful monoplane it has to be said that the former Afghan Hind could wear a pair of wings more elegantly.
