What techniques have people heard of for dodging A2A BVR missile shots? I’ve seen a few videos of aircraft in Iraq dodging multiple shots from SA-2 batteries. These seemed to result in a significant loss of altitude.
Do pilots allow some time for the defensive ECM to work before deciding to manoeuvre?
Do they attempt to get the missile on their beam then turn into it as it approaches? Does this require loss of altitude? What are the options if missiles are coming simultaneously from multiple angles? (Assume 1 from front, 1 from 30 degrees left, 1 from 30 degrees right).
It seems pretty clear that post-stall turning is not going to be effective. They result in a quick change of heading but only a minor change of position relative to the missile trajectory.
