Yes indeed, the other burning issue amongst us GLA fellows is as too when BAA will lengthen the runway suitably and expand the possibility of such long haul, single day sectors from GLA ? We need some more wide-body stands too. There’s no real reason AFAIK why GLA shouldn’t be rivalling Manchester by now, other than BAA’s reluctance over the past decade to commit itself to a proper and real expansion policy.

The problem with that would be that it would now become a 2 sector day for the crew which would impose a greater restriction on the maximum flight duty time they can work. This may be a problem for west coast services.

That appears to be the general conscensus round here Wys. Some were expecting a GLA-MAN combined service using a partially laden 343 from GLA to MAN.

God that hanger in VSKY pic is a tight fit for the bird. Only in places like Trinidad etc could you get an open air hanger made out of a huge slanted roof lol

Its about time we get direct flights to far away places.
We crave the sunshine as much as anyone else, Nay we crave it MORE!

Lets hope this turns out good and BWIA get the route, GLA or PIK.

Much like BWIA, Virgin finds that a large number of it’s PAX via Gatwick in particular, to Florida are Scots. There’s been no firm intention or declaration from Virgin to start a Scottish service, just an awful lot of petitioning, especially as the London hubs are becoming more saturated.:D

I never doubted this! 😀

Hopefully the next announcement from Scottish airports will be that of a Virgin-Atlantic connection to Florida and also (fingers crossed) a direct, point to point US West coast service.
How would Virgin pull this off if they’ve eliminated all their short haul routes, and narrowbody aircraft along with that, I would assume?

The article mentions a demand for the Scots to go down to Barbados and get some sun, but will there be demand for them to go up to Scotland? With G-VSKY being taken by BWIA, how many A340’s strong will they be? Also, have they completely dumped the Tristars?
They will have two A340’s Greekdude. BWIA’s Manchester service has been heavily populated by Scots for a long time now, hence the natural progression into Scotland itself. As we’ve mentioned in the past few days… us Scots don’t see an awful lot of sunshine, unlike you Southern Californian’s. Demand for trips to the hotspots, such as the Carribean is huge for such a small country.

Update… BWIA are only in negotiation with PIK, there’s a small possibility of GLA playing a royal flush I gather… ?:)

And heres the new aircraft… obviously not going to “ocean airways” whoever they were.
Ex G-VSKY of Virgin.
