Great news that her flight has been well documented and I look forward to viewing the finished film.

by the way..it was a miracle that Amy Johnston arrived in Australia alive as she was an awful navigator and mediocre pilot at the time of her long flight.

No argument there, but it’s a bit like flying your Spitfire in England, damaging it, then packing it off to South Africa for repair…. if you can’t find a competent repairer in America then your not trying, and with the availability of old stock spares, manufacturers of new etc, it must be cheaper than shipping it all that way; still whatever floats your shipping container.

So you’re in the USA, and you’re going to ship the aircraft to Hungary for repair, then back to the USA to carry on?
Sounds sensible: it flew in Europe for some time before the trip and got her to Australia OK, so they seem to know what they’re doing.

So your in the US, and your going to ship the A/C to Hungary for repair, then back to the US to carry on?

😮 “She said she hoped her plane would be back in action by July.” Blimey ,that looks like alot of work ahead .Glad everyone walked away.

Have seen her a few times at shows and wish her a speedy resuming of the quest.

Aviatrix’s 1942 Boeing Stearman aircraft is made from wood and plastic
That’ll be easy to fix then… 😉
But seriously, it is good to hear that they walked away from that.

With a new fuselage, replacement wings, new tail-section, new undercarriage, and rebuilt engine/propeller , that Stearman will be good-to-go.

Glad they are ok. Real life role model. Hope she finishes this awesome quest

Tracey crashes in Arizona.
Fortunately Tracey and her crew member survived unhurt but she is hopeful that the plane can be repaired by July. Looks optimistic to me.

Ouch!
Thank goodness no one was seriously hurt. That is always the most important thing.
Probably can largely be attributed to the fact that the Stearman is built like a tank.
Speedy recoveries to all.

Be nice to see my DH5520P hanging on the front of that Tiger!
Try DH 5220 P. Standard approved prop along with various Hordon-Richmond, Lang, Perfectus, Invencible copies of the same design.

Yes ouch indeed! There should be video as that plane almost has more cameras than horsepower. Would be very interesting to see. I wounder what the surface wind was at the time?
Steve
Ok, just read the rest of the FaceBook article and I think the pertinent question is what was the density altitude at the time? On a hot day here in Oz mine has marginal climb performance from an 1800′ AMSL strip so a 5000′ AMSL Desert Strip would be interesting.

Ouch! That was a bit of a heavy landing. Looks as though it cart-wheeled, and inverted as well, to smash the fin and rudder.
A pretty big crash in fact, and so to both get out unhurt is a real blessing.

The stearman looks a bit worse for wear now

Andy -a little thread drift but where are you in Canada?

Having met this intrepid lady at RIAT 2015, she deserves the recognition and accolades, manual flying with 60 stops and possibly a little nervy flying over Jordan to Amman to say the least!. Forget the support team and other bolt ons, it was a tremendous achievement, looking forward to the finished film/documentary, but also meeting Tracy again at RIAT 2016?
Best regards, Gerry R

Anyone know why she flew a Boeing/Stearman and not a Moth?
I think that there is some tie in with Boeing’s Anniversary as well. The plane is being crated off to the US for a coast to coast flight next.
Been watching this on PPrune and there is a fair bit of nay saying kicked off by the Stearman’s appetite for an R44 early on. It is a fantastic achievement, I struggle with the idea of flying my Stearman form Aldinga to the annual Antique Aircraft Association fly in at Echuca let alone UK to Aus!
