C-17's will be based at RAAF Richmond

Reading in Defence Today about the RAAF decission to buy C-17’s and there are assurences that these plancs will be based at Richmond and not Amberly along with the new A330 MRTT’s.

The defence minister, Dr Brendon Nelson has been quoted as saying “The Aircraft will be based at RAAF Richmond as they arrive. In the longer term we expect that they will be based at Amberley. The decissions in relation to the future of RAAF Richmond are yet to be made. We’re fully committed to 2010 and beyond but we’ve got a significant base dispositioin decision that we’ve got to make in the next six months or so”.

With this, it is confirmed that the base at Clarendon is to be operating untill at least after 2010. There are advantages spelled out in the text for basing the C-17’s at Amberley but for now, they are to call Richmond home.
