I would suggest there are easier/less expensive ways to restore a C-46.
Are there still some at Greybull, Wyoming, that would fit the bill?

In 2010 I visited the RTAF museum at Don Mueng, and there were 7 or 8 Fantrainers on display! Some of them weren’ t even finished…. So there must be some issues with them…
I think the RTAF were a bit unhappy with them, and didn’t keep them in service very long? Not sure.

Thailand is my second home, and my Thai wife was surprisingly impressed by the food at the RTAF Museum restaurant a couple of years ago. I guess you know how particular Thai women are about their food. Has the museum changed much recently? Disappointed to see the state of the Firefly last time.

The fantrainers in the scrapyard were in poor shape.I think the business has now stopped purchasing airframes as there is not a lot of room there now.The storage area now has antiques in, some aviation related while in front thier is a very nice restaurant!! I may be visiting again in march so will take a few more photos.

Then there is the Thai scrap yard we see photos of…lots if neat stuff in there, I rather fancy a Fantrainer, but there must be some reason they’re there.

Yes live locally (30k),When I lived here in 1998 it was pretty much the same it may have been used for para training.Restoration was tongue in cheek though!!There is a list somewhere of all gate guardians etc in Thailand,I will try and find it.There is a T-28 as gate guardian at the air base here.

Still, it’s a neat find, it reminds me of the wartime damaged fuselages that were used at building in the CBI theater.

Quite an interesting find! Do you live locally to it?
