Early Monday morning a C-5 crashed as it approached Dover AFB, Delaware.
Command spokespersons report 17 people were aboard as it went down short of the runway. A local hospital says i has treated at least 10 people, some were reportedly able to walk into the hospital.
Television/web photo show the plane it be in two large pieces with the entire nose/cockpit area separated from the fuselage aboout 30 feet behing the cockpit. The Verticcal stabilizer also seprerated and the left wing hit the ground. There was no sign of a major fire.
To the best of my knowledge, this is only the third C-5 crash in almost 40 years…
And to answer another thread, “no the C-5s aren’t that worn out”…the plane crashed while returning to the base after a missed approach. Looks like the pilot got too low on final. Judging by the crash photos, it doen’t look like it was going very fast.
We hope everyone is okay….
