Hi everybody,
a while ago I promised some drawings of the C.F. Adams class. Well it took time but they are finished. Hope you enjoy them as much as the Knox series. Allways happy about comments!
Here you go:

All 3 were built by Defoe Shipbuilding Company, Bay City, Michigan, USA.
I believe they were the last warships built by this company.
I grew up in Michigan…………..Yet, I didn’t realize warship of that size had ever been constructed locally.

LERX: mate you got most of it right, they were oil burning ships, thus engine room temps took a huge toll on their engineering crew. I remember there being a special allowance for those who served in the boiler rooms (Uni could back me up on this if he was in around the same time I was).
I too forgot about this pic and indeed you are correct, they did serve with both systems for a very short time, though my sources put it at only 4 months as the systems were being phased out at the time due to the RAN buying torpedos with a much larger range than the Ikara system could offer.

Nice pix!
I always thought the Charles F. Adams DDGs were pretty cool.
I’d have thought they could have been further updated (electronics & weapons) & remain useful, albeit in areas where only low-intensity/limited conflict was possible or likely.
But I read somewhere their range was unsatisfactory/high fuel consumption – I could be wrong.
Thanks!

Nice image, I had seen it before, but completely forgot about it until I saw your post.
The shot was taken as Brisbane, Adelaide & Success made the transit from Sydney to Perth on the first leg of their journey to join the UN forces taking part in the liberation of Kuwait.
I was on her at the time.

Hi,
aerial overview photo of an HMAS Perth Class Destroyer (DDG-41 Brisbane) during the first Golf War with both systems installed: 2x Ikara and 2x CIWS.
Also noticed 3x RHIBS rather than 2x Life boats.
The photo also includes an extra: 1x RAAF F-111 bomber!

hope you like it!

Hi;
MConrads: Mate as always nice work, but you made a booboo with the Perth Class mate.
Our old DDG’s didn’t have both the Ikara system and CIWS at the same time and only two vessels (HMAS’s Hobart and Brisbane) ever had the CIWS system fitted- Brisbane did two tours in the gulf where as Hobart only did one.
I’ve included a pic HMAS Perth which shows the Ikara system and its location (in yellow) and where the CIWS system was install on the class (in red).
I was waiting for that one:-)) At least according to my Combat Fleets 1993 edition for a very brief time (from the top of my head I think it was six months) one or both of the CIWIS equipped ships still carried the Ikara system. Just imagine the drawing repersents that timeframe:-)))
Glad you looked so close:-)
Regards.

Well some sort of chart of all the basic details that seems to be same in all ships like the rubber boats, cranes, mooring bulbs, doors ect…and more comprehensive and updated set of radars and weapons
And good written instructions of how to drawn certain things (color schemes, styles ect…) would propaply lower the step to start drawing things.

I am flattered. Always like to be missed.
BTW. Any suggestions about making the shipbucket more easy to use?
