When the Connie passed through the UK recently it got a lot of coverage, but the two C54s that flew into North Weald have been a bit neglected so far, so here are some pics from last Saturday – a dark and grey day, but never mind. They certainly look imposing on the Aces High apron and will be here for a while. Enjoy those beautiful radials!

The six year old pics have been de-posted because we each have only a finite posting allocation, and presumably the poster reached his limit, so pulled off some of the old ones, to free up some space and permit the attachment of more contemporary and relevant images.

It sure is nice to see that both of the C54s made it to North Weald, at times it certainly did not look like it when they were stuck here in Reykjavik with various illnesses;-)
The story about one of them staying in Europe, comes directly from the Captain of N-31356 (which is the gray one). According to what he said when the aircraft was stuck here, it will be left in Europe, but no one has opened his/her wallet yet. So in a way, I would say it´s future is a bit uncertain, as it definatly needs some TLC to keep it from falling apart:7
Thanks again for the pictures,
Galdri
Hi – I am new to this site – Saw the C54s while nipping up the M11 last month. Whats the ID of the second one? (Monino -aging spotter)

RE: C54s at North Weald
YakRider.
Thanks for the pictures.
These came thundering right over my house on a dank overcast day and well below the cloudbase.
It had me looking in my plane books as I did not recognise these from below.
I am used to warbirds flying over as we are right in the middle of the flightpaths for both Luton and Stansted airports, these planes fly between these paths. Old timers also fly over when Old Warden is on.
What a sound and sight these made, it made my day……!!!
Thanks…. :7 :7 :7

RE: C54s at North Weald
Thanks for posting those. I’d like to get down there and see them myself but that may or may not happen… They are great looking aircraft, for sure.

RE: C54s at North Weald
From what I’ve heard, they’re around at least until after Christmas. I suppose they brought them over now before the weather deteriorated (as it has over the last few days).
They certainly dwarf everything on the apron, even the Cat and the Dak, and are well worth a look.

RE: C54s at North Weald
Great pics! Have you any idea how long they are going to stay, and if the filming may involve some other aircraft too? I heard that one of the 4’s is to remain in Europe, and that filming will also take part in Germany. Strange that it is so hard to get info on this movie project. BW Roger
