CAAC Tridents/aviation viewing park at MAN…..

Hi! perhaps this is Flypast territory but I was wondering if any of you guys have any information on the CAAC tridents that were retired in the 1990’s?

Are any still servicable? and does anyone have any pictures?

Also, does anyone have any pics of the trident(s) at Nicosia airport, Cyprus? They are effectively in no mans land however I am led to believe that they have been visited by some. Is this so?

On another subject, with regard to the aircraft that are planned to be included in the aviation viewing park at MAN, does anyone think that the Trident in the Fire area there could ever be restored externally and placed on display? It has been stuck there for over 20 years now and I think that it is a shame that she can’t be replaced by a 737-200 perhaps as Tridents are getting a bit thin on the ground now in my opinion. I mean, it would’nt be too difficult to paint her up, find a few redundant speys and and put and put her on display would it?

Thanks,

Paul

Hiya Paul, well as promised, here you go: I didn’t manage to find much out i’m affraid. My search will continue though. For now this is all I could dig up. Hope this helps a little.

CAAC had a total of 35 Trident in their fleet.

B-2219. In storage at the Guangzhou Aviation School in Baiyun, China. Though looking a bit drained of colour and life, this Trident is apparently still in a good air worthy condition.

B-2216. In storage at the same location as 2219, looking in pretty good nick from the outside, but inside it has been completely gutted.

B-2217. Also in storage with sister ships 2219 & 2216. This Trident is looking a little more worst for the ware. Getting a tad bit of the rusty side.

B2211. This Trident was scrapped way back in 1993.

50057. This Trident, formerly of CAAC, has been fully restored, at least on the outside, and is on display in Zhuhai city, China. (Photo below)

Hope this is OK for now, not a lot I know, but please be patient. 🙂

Thank you, I shall hopefully post more on Sunday evening.

Cheers.

I think that the Tridents that went to Zaire were all 3Bs, the information that I have suggests that they never operated there and some are reduced to scrap.

Thanks very much for all your replies! Does anyone know what happened to the Tridents that went to Zaire in 1985?

There’s some nice pics of the Duxford Trident on www.airliners.net and one or two CAAC Trident’s as well, although not present day pics. Unfortunately I still haven’t got the hang of this picture posting malarkey yet !

The Trident at Duxford is painted up in the “Red Square” livery and looks really good, I think this actual aircraft was stranded in Cyprus for some time whilst operating for Cyprus Airways. It was rescued by BEA/BA and returned to service based at LHR after extensive engineering. As far as I know the wings are in original config, I think that it is the Trident 3 that is preserved at LHR that has had the wings “clipped” As far as I know the final operator of the Trident in P.R.China was the airforce on transport duties.

There’s a Trident in 70’s BA colours at Cosford. It’s opened up from time to time for people to walk through. I know it’s not really helping the original poster but does anyone know whether the Trident still survives at BHX?

There’s a nicely restored Trident at Duxford I think, it’s been painted up in BEA colours and has had a partial wing clip if I’m remebering right ? Needless to say it’s a static exhibit.

Hiya Paul, I shall do a search for you over the next day or so and see what I come up with. I shall post again mid week.

Cheers.
