Well its still with us!
Forgot to post these last week after my trip to Millom 🙂
Out of interest is this the one on the BAPC register or is that the remaining one at Caernarfon?
Also is this the same Idwal Jones who built it, and maybe even the same Flea……..? – http://www.leamingtoncourier.co.uk/CustomPages/CustomPage.aspx?PageID=49444

Ok maybe a slight curve ball here but how about a half and half job? The worst side sympathetically restored and the other left as is.
Just more fuel for the debate anyway 😉

What’s there to preserve? All I see in the pictures is a 30% finished wooden fuselage that is very rotten. I would rebuild and make it more complete so that it actually looks like a flea.

Yep..
I,ll second that..Preserve and duplicate..;)

Thoughts and opinions please 🙂
Evening folks,
Now here is an interesting question I would like to throw out there for debate.
My original intention was to rebuild the wee beasty. However having spoken to a few people and received a PM or two, I now wonder if this is the right way to go? Would it in fact be a better idea to leave her as she is and maybe construct a replica to display alongside? So that nothing original is consigned to the bin (not as if there is much of it left as it is) and people can see what it would have looked like?
Over to you…. 🙂

Ah the flea its designer was responsible for one of my favorite aviation quotes. “If you can nail together a packing case, you can construct an aeroplane”.
You only have to read Mignet’s book (it contains all the plans for the flea) to realise how the flea craze took off. :diablo:

Jon,
What are your intentions with this ? Are you know the owner for example ?
.
I squared the ownership issue when it was first thought it had gone with the Prince. Caernarfon were quiet happy to see the back of it and had no issues with me having it.
As for my intentions – as daft as it sounds I now feel responsible to look after the poor thing and am going to tackle restoring it with a view to it going back on display in its country of birth somewhere (fellow forumite has suggested a good location already). This was not what I planned orginally but as a lot of you know these things just draw you in somehow! I seem to attract airframes in need of saving lol 😀
I could have sold her on etc but having thought long and hard I dont want to profit from something I got in good faith for free. Our aviation heritage is the bigger picture for me and if I can do my little bit to help preserve a part of that then my time and effort is justified.
Though it does help that Millom have 2 Fleas for reference oh and plans! 🙂

According to Wrecks & Relics, both are BAPC registered:
BAPC.201 ex Talysarn. Fuselage, rudder, wing spars. Modded u/c (sic)
BAPC.286 ex St.Athan, ‘local area’. Scott A2S
It also states that the ex St.Athan one is the one on display and under restoration to taxiable condition, so I guess you have BAPC.201.Andy
Interesting…..
So what happened to the rudder and wing spars???? It is documented that the u/c went on BAPC.286 but not the other bits.
Also reminds me I really need to get a new copy of W&R!
