dark light

Calais for the day

Finally did it yesterday, clear day, good, vis and on the 3 time of asking, we crosssed the channel.

Nice people and good food, worth the trip I say.

We took a 172, we had tried earlier in teh month in a 150 but the weather had not been good and without VOR’s etc it was a wise choice to turn round.

In the end it was so clear the 150 would of been ok, but always more p[ayload in a 172 😀

Oh I see  ! Ususally most people tend to photograph airfields when quoting the view from 2 mile finals! I wouldn’t have thought it was too unusual if you were in an amphibian!

Can’t you see the runway then? 🙂

The picture is out the side window. I read all the water survival times and ditching procedure before i went, NOT comfortable reading

Glad to hear it! So long as you have enough altitude to get to a ship you massively increase your survival odds.

If that first picture is 2 mile finals, I’d love to know what on earth in that field of view is considered to be a runway! 😀

It was a lovely clear day we crossed at about 3000 on the way out about 3500 on the way back, because of not so broken cloud cover. Either way we wouldnt have glided clear, you just hav eto make precautions. It is not a long way over, there are plenty of ships, take lifejackets and a dingy if you can get it in or a survival suit. It is only 17 mins praying your engine is ok.

Moggy, very good it was on about 2 mile finals.

From the look of the harbour I’d guess that was taken on about 2 mile finals.

The Le Touquet trip that I posted the photo link to cost each of us about 70 quid directly. (In other words I haven’t included any portion of our monthly group payments.)

It was very quiet but a Stearman and a Miles something had made it there.

My instructor has been to L2K before and so not to bore him we thought we would go the opposite direction. He does tell me that L2K is alot nicer, but we will try somewhere different in the Summer. Maybe Ostende.

Anyone for a fly out 🙂

Great stuff.

Calais looks as busy as usual  Any reason you didn’t go to Le Touquet like every other British flier?
