Not a sight I expected to see out here. This Tipsy Nipper is the former G-OVAG, and was imported to the US last year. It is an early Fairey-built aircraft, now powered by a Jabiru, and is one of only 3 examples on the US register.

It is seen here at last weekend’s Mustang Days event at Vacaville in northern California, a nice, low-key event which attracted 11 P-51s (including a rare P-51H) as well as a number of other warbirds and vintage aircraft, plus many Ford Mustangs courtesy of a couple of local car clubs. The event was organised by the Jimmy Doolittle Museum at nearby Travis AFB.

Brings it closer to home when one is involved in a story, however tenuous the connection. RIP. 🙁

I’m very, very sorry to report that the Nipper and pilot were lost in an accident yesterday.

Great photo and as you say rather unexpected! At least the owner won’t forget what year it was built. 🙂
