Calling all Auster Experts!

Hi
Can anyone tell us what a basic factory standard instrument fit would have been for an Auster J-1? or can anyone supply a photo? We know that there were many diferent fits used to customers requirements, and very many later mods, but there must have been an “Ex Works” standard fit.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Ritch,

I hope these help you.
First is a photo of G-JAYI. Sorry DGH, but I already had a photo so I thought I’d save you the trouble. It doesn’t look very ‘stock’ to me…

However G-AJRE (also taken at Coventry) looks far more original

Aside from that, I haven’t forgot about taking your lad for a trip in 927… We’ll try and get it sorted this year. I was hoping to bring the Auster over for the open day at the end of last year, but I think it got canceled?

She’s currently awaiting a few little repairs but then there are plans for her to do a lot more flying later in the year. 🙂

I haven’t seen ‘YI fly for ages. If they need someone to put hours on it, let me know 🙂

I’ll try to remember to take a photo of the panel of G-JAYI when I go into the office on Friday. I’m not sure her panel is original but it might help. 🙂

Hi R&M

This thread shows a panel photo of G-AJRB, a Auster 5J1, when it was still airworthy and flying at Sywell.

Thanks.

Hi T-21
Thanks for the information. Any chance of a scann or photocopy of the pages concerned? We are working on an unidentifiable J-1 at the moment, so the obviuos (to us) thing to do, is go back to as original a condition as posible.

Hello I have the original Beagle Auster pilot’s notes for the Auster J1B and J1N.
The panel shows 5 instruments only from left to right bottom row Altimeter, large turn and bank indicator,RPM gauge large. On the top roe at centre Airspeed indicator and to the right top Oil pressure gauge.

That’s it folks pretty basic and glad to help.
