……………. Can you please help me?
I am travelling from Bristol to Heathrow this Saturday morning (early). I have checked the runway assignments and if using the 27’s they will be landing 27L from 0600-1500.
As I have never been to Heathrow so early in the morning before, can any of the locals advise me as to where the best place to spot from that time of the morning? I will head for Myrtle Avenue (and surrounding areas) but will I be shooting into the light?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Adam

Park on Cains Lane the next road down thn walk back to Myrtle, take you 5mins, easy peasy!
You could try Myrtle Avenue itself, as there is a very small (2 space) car-park right up next to the field where you will be viewing from…with you arriving fairly early, you may find a space free there, but with it being a Saturday, it would all depend on whether the local residents use these spaces to park their own cars at this time. Otherwise Cains Lane is your best bet as mentioned above!

If things are normal, we can land on both runways from 0600-0700 local. In practice, this usually stops around 0635-0645 as the peak inbound rush tails off, although it’s very variable on the winds both over the Atlantic and over Russia.
Before 0600L we technically should be on the ‘night alternation’ runway, which might very well be different to the designated landing runway that will be in use up to 1500L if we’re on westerlies.

LHR seems to be playing slightly silly games at the moment. I went two days ago, the days that they the problems at T4; landings were on 27L; they suddenly confused everyone on the Myrtle Ave playing field by changing runways at 1pm, instead of 3pm. That bought an early end to my day at LHR.

Myrtle is the best place at that time of day for 27L if your on foot as the sun will be behind you. Looks like its going to be a nice weekend. Shame I’m shooting the Tour De France. Maybe try and venture down on Sunday evening.
Have a good time.
