Anyone ever driven a bus ?

Yes, I own a classic Leyland Leopard coach. It seldom leaves the yard, as it requires a second mortgage to fill the tank.

Is it as much fun as he thinks he’s missed ?

Now that brings back some memories!!

My husband came home yesterday complaining that he’d missed his one and only chance to take the wheel of a real bus.

He’d been to a bus event at Dunsfold aerodrome and the public were allowed to have a go at driving an old bus,but he couldn’t do it because the car’s being repaired and he didn’t have his driving licence with him.

The poor chap’s had to console himself with two minute toy buses and some expensive but extremely boring bus books.

Anyone ever driven a bus ?

i used to live not too far from the leyland plant at leyland

during the 70’s leyland built just the chassis engine and driving positions it was just a skeletal frame

from the factory they were driven under thier own steam to various coachbuilders around the country

many a time we would pass them on the motorway in our old hillman minx

looking at the poor driver battling a freezing winter rainstorm in a mac , goggles , scarf , and flat cap perched high up on a perilous fully open driving position

i always though that had to be one of the worst jobs ever all the crapness of a motorcycle without the bennefit of dodging through traffic jams

i presume they will come over on the ferries that go into fleetwood as it is a regular truck ferry and pretty central for them to be driven onwards !!

My husband,who’s as fascinated by buses as I am by flying-boats,tells me that Wrightbus are building the new London bus,nicknamed the Borismaster.
He told me a lot more about it that I can’t remember,but here’s a picture of it for those weird people that might be interested –

It was whilst reading an article about the new London bus that I found out that Wrightbus are Northern Irish. That will be a long drive for someone when the time comes!!

For those people within easy reach of Duxford, they have an annual ‘Showbus’ event; this years is on 18th.September. I am told that it’s quite an interesting day out.

You might be right about weird, only 86 people have viewed it including me (just to keep up to date with the scene. 😉 )

I rang them on 028 2564 1212.
Once fully built at the factory they are driven,under their own steam,to their destination.
