I’ve been tinkering with a new WAP site. If you’ve got a photo-capable mobile, you might like to download some pictures of vintage aircraft for use as wallpapers or for photo messaging. They are all free of charge – you pay for the call as per usual but that’s yer lot.
However, you’re all guinea pigs for a new site – I’d appreciate some feedback if you get any images – mainly to make sure it works for other people! It’s only been tested on a Nokia 7210 as that’s what I have, so other phones are most welcome π

According to my last orange bill, 1 meg of GPRS data will get you aprox 1200 WAP pages, 20 WEB pages or 100 emails with out attachments. I used 0.9823 meg and it cost me Β£2.50. dear I suppose it is compared with dial up on your pc, but when you are sitting on the station and your train is late its nice to see what is going on on the flypast forum. I do try and stay away from any postβs that have lotβs of pictures though.

With most modern GPRS phones, you can connect your laptop or PC and surf the web – but it’s not going to be cheap – because they charge by the megabyte.
Unless I’m out of date (possible), even if you have an “always on” type GPRS 56kbps connection, the cost of running it is prohibitive for anything but serious professional advantage.

Donβt suppose anyone here has a SPV do they? As you can browse the internet on it, and I donβt mean wap, its got internet explorer on it, and you can have any background piccie you want, as long as you have it on your computer. If any one has got one, how are you getting on with it?

Not attempting to hi-jack Jo’s thread (She’s just left our office) but the next BIG thing in mobiles is apparently going to be ‘Push To Talk’.
This is punted as replacing text messages. Effectively it is short voice clips delivered over the SMS system. So instead of laboriously picking out “C U in the pub at 8” on your keypad, you dictate it, then squirt it down the SMS system to the recipient who plays it back at the other end.
Surprisingly, (I’m a mobile phone luddite) it sounds a good idea to me.

My phone has a camera on it – so I just snap and then use that as wallpaper.
Not much point to it really though – just wastes battery life if the screen is on all the time! π
The camera might come in useful to record an accident – and there’s memory enough for quite a few pictures.
I tried WAP a year or so ago – next to pointless and very expensive for what it is (on O2 anyway). I’m not into sports news bulletins, and finding my local restaurant, or what’s on at the cinema can be gleaned from the local rag.
SMS (that bloody … — … is annoying heard around the office, isn’t it) text messageing just hurts my hand, so don’t bother with it.
And now they want to add video messaging and video phone capabilities. Well the Video Phone fell flat on it’s backside in the ’70’s and again in the ’80s. They don’t even use it as a communication method in Star Trek (except for major conferences, and then it’s on the “Viewscreen”.

A swift bounce to the top of the stack, just to let you know I’ve added some more pictures to the WAP site. Mostly military jets, including a couple of historic ones. There’s also a small addition to the prop-driven posse π
It’s also been rearranged so you will need to choose ‘next’ on the phone menu to reach pages 2 and 3, where the images are.
Enjoy!

The only thing I’d add here is that if you forward your mail in this way, for heavens’ sake put some filters on it to only forward from specific people that you know you want to hear from. I get something like 200 junk mails a day – the last thing I’d want to be doing is wading through that lot on a phone! I’m sure you don’t have as bad a problem but you get my drift…

LOL:D π π π π
Phones and wimmen seem to go together, like men and the TV remote.
There are two members of the female brigade in my house. The youngest has two mobiles and has been known to talk on one while texting on the other, while the eldest, lovely lady that she is (she’s reading over my shoulder) has also been known to have a conversation to two different people, on two different phones and still have room to moan at me (she gone away now) at the same time.
What I do not understand, is if you have a Pay as you Go, why use the house phone, when the Pay As You Go calls have already been paid for….
There must be some logic there somewhere but its bound to be female logic.
Now, where’s my tin hat.:D

Tony C,
You don’t want a phone that takes pictures.
It’s all an evil consiracy by the women in Mobile Phone company marketing to keep track of their men folk.
“Where are you ?”
“Working late”
“I don’t believe you, you’re down the pub with the lads. I want a photo of your PC with the date & time on it NOW or your dinner’s in the cat”
That’s the way it is going boys…………
ooooohhhh, I’m going to get it from the girls for that. I’m going outside to work on the car & avoid the PC for a bit. Let me know when it’s safe to come back.

I never got around to working out how to use my phone directly as an email machine. However, my thumbs are worn down from texting.
Here is another idea, which I use constantly. Go to www.O2.co.uk. Set up a free email account. Follow their instructions for accessing your email via WAP. Select the option that says something to the effect of “send me a text message when I get a new email”. You can also autoforward your emails from your regular email account to your O2 account, so that when you are away from your PC you know when someone has sent you an email.
Good luck.

I must admit to wondering why I would want a telephone that takes pictures.
To a technophobe like me, I can just image that I would end up taking a picture of the workings of my inner right ear, everytime I used it.
