Cheers guys have had a wee drama in the design of our spitfire MkV reproduction. As we are translating all our drawings into 3d to help save on manufacturing dramas later down the track we came across this little problem. The elevator fulcrum at the bottom of the control column is given at a set dimension as is frame 9.We are using a mossie aileron control drum and uni joint but when assembled it does not pass through the bottom hole on the frame 9 aft centre channel. The frame 9 drawing we are using is for a MkV but the structural drawing for frame7 to 9 is MkI.Any ideas??We have learnt the hard way not to trust the factory drawings but at least it,s not starting to look like a P47 or something 😀 .We are trying to get it all ridgie didge so the closer we are the less dramas(hopefully)we will have later on.Anyone here keen to comment or should we stick to playing with train sets. 😎

Frame 11 details
No there are “u” channel spacers between both web plates as well as a few other style spacers. If you contact me at haroldmulder@hotmail.com I have a few pictures from our project that will probably help you visualize these parts. for info our project is www.y2kspitfire.com

Same as the rudder slide bearing
Same sort of operation as the rudder slide. As the column is moved fore and aft the drum would pivot as well with most of the movement taken up in the uni joint.By jove I think I have it.Will have to put a bearing in place to lock it and then start fiddling with the design.Cheers guys, also another quicky,frame11.Seeing as it,s a double frame like 8 does it have the small spacers as well to keep the proper distance or is it just the “C” channels and the internal one up the top…part No 30027-1987.Cheers guys and thanks again. :diablo:

the drum is held in place with a self aligning bearing which is held in place by a joggled plate bolted to frame 9

Cheers stuart,we only have the 30033/sheet6 drawing in our stash but yes I can see it now.It looks like the control drum is held in place with a swivel bearing on part 43 on that drawing. The bottom hole on the centre aft channel of frame 9 would have to be an access hole for the retention nut for the drum.Sweet mate.Looks like you win the prize!!Just gotta find out what that prize is.Does it ever get to the stage where all the drawings start looking the same.Nurse, nurse,my medication please.Regards one slightly less stressed Spitfire builder.

according to drawing no. 35033/ sht 6 (which incidently is the same as 30033/sht 6 )the elevator drum rear mount is on the front of frame 9 and no part of it extends beyondthe C/L except some of the nut; the only reference point given is that the top mountion hole is 25” below the C/L of the datum
