Calling the Diving Fraternity

We are seeking help from anyone involved with diving on wrecks either personaly or with orgaisations.

We are involved with building a second world war Westland Whirlwind Fighter.

There are not many crash sites on land but there are a number in the sea.

Four off St Brelaides Bay in Jersey. 2 war graves aircraft dived in but 2 ditched and pilots got out.

1 aircraft off Sark in The Channel Islands.

Two in Cherbourge Harbour area.

7 aircraft off the French coast.

1 Severn Estuary (almost inaccessible due to strong currents and massive swings in water depth)

and 3 or 4 other aircraft around UK waters.

we are aware that at least one of the Channel islands aircraft has been dived on But we cannot find anyone who has any further information and attempts to contact the Jersey diving club has got no response.

If there is anyone with any information on any of these wreck sites exact locations, depths, condition and the holy grail any photo’s.We do have some vague locations

Any help will be greatly appreciated details on our project and contact details are on our web site and we will treat all information in confidence and will not publish anything unless ay wrecks are recovered.

Thank you in advance

Mike E

Mike.

Contact EN830 via PM. He occasionally posts on here and I know he has done considerable research into the operations of whirlwind squadrons off Jersey and IIRC was instrumental in organising Memorials to two of the pilots killed. He may not be able to help but might know someone who can.

He was also instrumental in providing the Memorial to Bernhard Scheidhauer on the Island. He was later executed for his part in the Great Escape.

Mike, Try the Harbour master, he was, (A number of yrs ago, very helpful to me) although He, may no longer be there, I have had several boats, and have found Harbourmasters the best place to go for info, “On their patch” so as to speak.
