Caption says Fighter “Spitfire” on the catapult cruiser “Molotov”. Fighters “Spitfire” in 1944 based on the cruiser “Molotov” for the study of the problems of using naval aviation.
I’m guessing this was nothing more than a trial installation that didn’t amount to anything. Unless you know better, of course…

Flaps were selected down then wooden blocks were placed in the flap bays. flaps were then selected up. The blocks restricted the up movement and thereby provided extra lift on take off. When airborne flaps were selected down and the blocks fell away restoring normal operation.

My knowledge of Spitfires isn’t all that vast, but it looks to me like the flaps aren’t fully down.
A Soviet mod?
