Camouflaged Airfield Buildings during World War Two

Can anyone recommend a source for information regarding the Camouflaging of airfield buildings during the war? I know that some hangars and other structures were painted green and black (as per East Kirby), while others were painted green and brown (Elvington).

[QUOTE]oops in that case I had better throw away the booklet I got from them about five years ago then! Small group based on Leicestershire border – they may not be going now but they certainly were as i nearly joined them.

The National Archives (ex PRO) at Kew ought to be worth consulting and BTW there is no such thing as The Control Tower Research Group – but there is an Airfield Research Group (http://www.airfield-research-group.co.uk/).

Mrs JDK finds the airfield buildings book almost as funny as I do. 😉

If it were about brown paint it would almost be serious.

Though DX is quite authentic in areas for a certain 60s film…

Does the Key publishing (plug…) Airfield Buildings book have anything in? My copy’s in a box. There was also the hardback Military Airfield Buildings from Haynes(?)

Hope this helps,

I’d just to like point out and to have entered in the minutes of this forum that it wasn’t so long ago that I was ridiculed here for having a book about the camouflage of ships–which became known as ‘Andy’s book about grey paint’.

Now it transpires that JDK has a book about brown paint.

I hope he’ll be treated as shamefully as I was.

The Defence of Britain Project or the Control Tower Research Group should be able to assist – you’ll need a lot of Matt 29/Matt30 tinlets to do a whole building though 😉

Why, are the buildings at Duxford painted in the incorrect shade of paint Ashley?

Apparently so…

Seriously though, the IWM’s Department of Document is quite likely to have papers with the information you are seeking, so why not try dropping them a line to find out?

Why do I get the feeling the words “Duxford”, “incorrect”, “shade”, “of”, “paint”, “on”, “buildings” are going to crop up in this thread before too long? :diablo:
