I picked this up recently – two empty cartridge cases – the caption reads – “Found in Bridport after airbattle October, 1940”.
Can anyone shed any light on this please?
Thanks in advance.

Thanks folks. The way the cases are mounted is misleading – they are actually .303 and both dated 1939.
I wonder who or what fired them – we will probably never know…

They look like German 20mm cases, I have some on a belt @ home.
Better pics and measurements would help, and a look at their base

Most weapons dumped the spent brass overboard.
They do not look like 303s. German 7.62? maybe.

Thanks Andy
I don’t have my Blitz then and now to hand but there can’t have been that many airbattles over Bridport… Might of course be wrong about that!

Spent brass… must have been loads of this around during the war…?

Stretching it a bit to identify which particular air battle these came from….however….a strong possibility MIGHT be 7 October 1940.
