Can anyone help with this 66 Sqn Spitfire II?

Long Range Spitfire Mk II P8131 was a presentation aircraft – LUTON II.

It joined 66 Squadron on 6 July 1941. F/Lt H R Allen claimed a Bf 109 probably destroyed flying this aircraft on 20 August 1941. It was damaged on 21 December at Portreath and transfered to Westlands for repair.

The aircraft was coded LZ for 66 Squadron, and either a/c letter E or F.

Can anyone confirm which it was please?

The serial numbers on these aircraft (the LR Spit IIs at 66 Sqn) seem to have been overpainted. Does anyone have a listing by chance of serial number to individual a/c code letter for 66 Squadron Spitfires during this period – July – Dec 1941?

My thanks for any help with this,

Regards
