Can anyone id this black and white film?

There’s an invisible ring around a village where nothing can survive, not even birds.
They send a soldier in, wearing hazchem gear and tied to a rope. As soon as he passes a certain point he
immediately collapses.
That’s all I can remember of the film as a kid.
