Sitting outside the harbourmasters office in Rye harbour. Just curious…

Rubber suit
It’s under the bed where you always keep it (allegedly).
Anon.

Now where’s that rubber suit of mine…?

I hope the ferreting was worth it!
You should have popped in for tea….I’m almost within sight of Rye.
By the way. Pity about the Whitley wreckage. I told the Harbour Master that nobody could possibly ever want it and so he threw it all back in the sea….!! :diablo:

Oh you know me Andy, just ferreting around 😉

Certainly Bramo-Fafnir. I had one just like it which, I think, is now at Hawkinge. I suspect this one is from a Dornier 17 that went into Rye Bay during October 1940. Somewhere I have a Police report and its (approximate) reported location in the bay corresponds to where this was trawled up.
They had to clear away the Whitley wreckage to get it, though! 😉

Thanks CD and Cees
I thought the hub was German, but the yellow tips put a bit of doubt in my mind! They may well have been painted afterwards – someone has painted the steel parts. I’ve no idea how long it’s been there – a long time by the look of it.
Sorry CD, I didn’t have the wit to count the teeth! Will next time! :p

Yes, German VDM propblades (the narrow type) I agree with Creaking Door that it could be from a Bramo 323 (heinkel He115, Dornier 17 perhaps).
The yellow tips are not right, perhaps painted after recovery?

The reduction gears ratio is greater than 0.5:1 probably in the 0.6:1 to 0.7:1 range…..did you count the teeth? 😀
My guess would be Bramo-Fafnir 323.

Farman type reduction gears so must be a radial but not a Bristol radial.
Looks German to me so that should narrow it down a bit.
