I got this off ebay as a trade for whitley bits. Anyone have any ideas as to what it’s from? Almost certainly RAF judging by the earth brown paint still on it…?
Thanks in advance

Need a good home for it Elliot…? :0)
We could always give it a good home in our museum for our halifax display!

Hi everyone – for anyone who is interested, I had the cowling blasted and sure enough, underneath is a ref number with a 61 prefix indicating halifax III onwards.
Thanks for all the advice.

Looks very Bristol-ish to me. Beaufighter? Looks like the back of the Beau carb intake fairing.
I agree, the carburetter intake fairing of a Hercules engine (or big Bristol) installation at least that is what I thought when it was on e-bay recently.

Hmmm…. it looks brown in the flesh (at least pretty sure it is) – i think it’s my poor abused camera on its last legs making it look yellow…. Could I suppose be desert cammo….?
Is it brown? It looks like weathered yellow to me, in some shots, but then I realise that colours from a camera are never 100% compatible to colours in the flesh.

Sadly not Peter – the surface is very grubby – not easy to make any numbers out at all. it needs a good blasting.
Elliot
are there any stamps or id numbers letters on it?

Good point webpilot – come to think of it, if it were from the underside it wouldn’t be brown. More likely to be an upper surface?
