Hi guys, can ayone identify this machine and it’s owner please? This picture was taken at the DX September airshow in 2003.
Cheers

There used to be one at Duxford in the 1980s, but it left when its owner sold it on. ‘Replaced’ by the vaguely SPAD-shaped plastic thing hanging in the AAM.
And here it is, N4727V/S4523 on the 3rd May 1991.

Very nice shots Mike! I’d tried looking for spads on G-INFO but none came up, so I didn’t know if any were under restoration.
My visit to Old Warden at the weekend got me thinking that we should be including these old machines in our directory. Originally we just covered WWII machines, but we’re now starting to include classic jets, and thought we may as well go the other way too! 😉

Thank you Mike – nice to know that the old minces do not deceive!

Just out of interest, are there any Spads out there?
Given the URL probably out of your line of interest but there was a recent thread of Steiglitz’s piccies from La Ferte Alais, and one had a SPAD behind a Morane parasol if I remember right. So they are out there, but perhaps not over here!

That’s great thanks guys. I’m just adding some new sections in the warbird directory at www.ukwarbirds.net so assistance with some of the more obscure items is very helpful, thanks! 😉

Yes, it’s John Day and Robert Gauld-Gallier’s Nieuport 17 replica, powered by a Warner radial. It normally lives (I think) near Popham. No doubt the Rearwin Owners Club will confirm this.
It’s been quite busy of late in the filming of the Flyboys WW1 movie at Halton and Brieghton. That shooting I gather is now almost over, although anyone going up to Brieghton for the fly in this weekend, might still find Kermit Weeks’ Nieuport on the static park before it goes back to the USA!
It certainly is a pretty aeroplane. This is how Halton looked last month when the entire WW1 camp and a “Nieuport squadron” was in residence!

Well, it’s a Nieuport 17 replica. Can’t tell you the owner though.
