I am 17 and would like to fly for recreational purposes, can I get a licence?

It’s easy, just go to the nearest airfield that has a flying school or club and ask. Nothing difficult about that. Otherwise pick up some flying magazines from the bookstore, flight schools always advertise in them.

This seems like such a random question, you can get a license, you can get an NPPL or PPL.
What we would like as forumites are more specific details of what you would like to achieve, that way we can actively converse over the topic in hand.Rgds

I would like to fly personal planes (e.g. the Europa XS) as a recreational activity, not a lot else I can say.

You can do the following:
Go to a flight school at your local airfield and they should be able to give you all the information you need and perhaps do an introductory flight, if you think that there is a reason for which you may be disqualified (medical etc), write to the CAA.
