Turkey Begins New Copter Talks

Turkey’s procurement authorities last week launched negotiations with a consortium of Russian and Israeli companies to co-produce 50 attack helicopters after Ankara and a U.S. contractor failed to agree on the price tag for Turkey’s largest ongoing program.
In the latest chapter of the long-delayed $1.5 billion program, procurement authorities in Ankara will hold parallel talks with the new consortium and Bell Helicopter Textron, Fort Worth, Texas, Turkish officials said.
“During our most recent round of talks with Bell Helicopter last week, we failed to reach a compromise on basic disputes including price, warranties and configuration for their AH-1Z King Cobra gunships,” one senior procurement official said July 23. “As a result, we have decided to open negotiations with the second best bidder.”
