Looks like the kinda place my kids would enjoy playing in !! I take it if you make a sand castle and place a flag on the top your likely to get straffed?

I think it was the work of the new trainee apprentice…. try to get all the paint and corrosion removed from one side…. 😉
(a little off topic – but it IS the desert and sand blasting is involved… gotta love the shine on those RPG rounds!)

Contrail – is that the local sandblaster getting a little too enthusiastic?

Definitely agreed… striking similarity to the Latecoere 17… no… wait that wasn’t it (or last night even)…. still a similarity – although the ‘cowling’ is all wrong – but then… why worry… definitely fun ‘though
I’ve been having fun with Fouga23’s link… the blog puts it in Egypt… I’m calling it a CR-42… the u/c struts have it in my eye.
NAh, not a CR-42. It’s part of Vango’s new range of lightweight tents. Look, here’s one when it’s finished!(http://www.vango.co.uk/) 😉

Negative or transperancy scanned in on a cheap scanner? My gut feeling is that Consul has put his finger on it.

Bingo… on the nose… exactly… 5 by 5… (and I can call myself an expert in that field)
true, jpeg compression causes lossiness, pixel fragmentation etc with higher compression levels, but there is a lot of pixel fragmentation in this image consistent with clone brushing, or touching up. but whats with the haloes???? normally Chroma downsampling in Jpeg compressors, causes jagged or fuzzy edges around colour margins/edges, not symmetrical haloes almost all the way around edges, only ever seen that in transplanted bits. has the image been repeatedly compressed and uncompressed?
is it a dirty government cover up conspiracy? :p

I’m no expert, but aren’t those features just standard jpeg ‘artifacts’ due to the compression that jpeg use? You see them around sharp edges in jpegs when magnified.

At twenty times magnification the alterations are everywhere, just take a look at the top edge of the spine and the hood, the angle of the spine is too straight and flat , the outside edge has a tell tail halo of pixels all the way round, The nose section also has digital touch marks all around it, and the tell tale halo of lighter pixels all around it.

Fouga23 found it via google: http://www.piinc.biz/company.htm
It could just possibly be made of wood, but I doubt it. I emailed the site owner… he may have some answers.
AH HAA…. That’s the one. Many thanks.

May I point out that the lettering on the side of the “body” is not parallel to it or the ground, but somewhere in between. Also, something strange with the scale of the whole thing; judging by the look of the ground around it and the size of the palm on the right, I would guess that this thing is around 4′ to 6′ long. Perhaps it is a storage tower or something which has fallen over and was marked as a signpost or something? Anyways, I smell bodgery…
cheers

Mind you I bet at least one person has thought about getting the dataplate to have it rebuilt!

Iron Oxide
This may be a clue
It might not be an aeroplane!

I think you’ll find this is a prop or model and has something to do with a French 8-part TV series done in 1980 about Aeropostale and the development of French air mail services. The item is most likely depicted in Morocco not Turkey. I seem to recall that the Salis conversion of a Norseman into an airworthy Latecoere 17 replica at Ferte Alais was also linked with the same venture.

Anyway the location of the source of the photo has been posted. See earlier link. Why would anyone fake holiday snaps?
Anyway for the conspiracy theorists.. I think it was the guy on the grassy knoll who took the picture!
By: David Burke - 28th May 2006 at 21:30
Why would someone fake a picture of something which defies identification? If it was the missing Avenger flight from the Bermuda Triangle I could understand the intrigue but it’s not! Maybe when it arrives at Duxford in a ISO we shall all be the wiser!
