No1. First thoughts are obviously Spitfire. No markings and appear to have never had metal fittings. Recovered via a farm at the weekend.
500ml water bottle to give scale.

Corsair F4U-?? by Vought-Viskorsky (Chance-Vought)
Thanks to Everyone for the great Help. I feel we have a positive ID and the screen is from a Corsair F4U-??. Now to figure out which year and model F4U. The Diagram provided by NC900 matches the Brackets on the Screen which I Have. The “VS” does represent Chance-Vought or Vought-Sikorksy according to the Aviation Archaeology Website. Also, the dimensions and shape appear to match the screen of the original post from SKYPILOT62.

Interesting screens! F4Us were indeed covered in VS part numbers (vought Sikorsky or is that much later?) I’ve not got a manual but in the Warbird Tech F4U book there is a reprint of a cockpit GA with windshield and cowl labelled VS-23815. Hope that helps.

VS part number remind me a Chance-Vought part number , at least, I would try to dig that way.
…F-4U used VS- numbers….and look what I found… interresting isn’t it ?
Cheers,
Olivier

I reckon that’s a positive ID – the clincher for me is the rounded corner on one side of the “bottom” (in fact, the top as fitted). Many, many thanks!
Just the second one to go now…….does the VS part number give any clues?

Looks like a good match. Well spotted.
Photos of the first armoured glass….TBM / TBF Avenger turret (do you agree?) Looks too thick anyway to be a front windscreen.
Cheers,Olivier

second windscreen looks to be DH Hornet …..just my two cents 😮
Hello ausflyboy
As I said in the original thread, the second screen is the correct profile for a hornet, but the overall size is too small. I have checked this against the part drawing.

I also have the second Windscreen and have been trying to identify. It was aquired through a friend here in the USA. There is a part Number “VS-24815” printed at the top of the screen.
Would not “VS – 24815” equate to a Vickers Supermarine aircraft? If so, my thinking is along the Attacker or Swift line of enquiry.
For what help it may be, both screens came from a garden close to RAF Leuchars……

windscreen
Unfortunatly not from a Fairey Firefly.
I was looking at Fairey Firefly for the straight-sides, rounded-top one but considering the photographs the early marks seem to have a narrower base and though the MkIV and MkV appear to be parallel sided, they are too tall. But judging these things by eye isn’t easy. Could it have been cut down?

Not Hurricane, Not Spit, Not Typhoon

Did the Miles Master have an armoured windscreen?

No idea about either, but does the shape of screen 1 suggest an aircraft with an assymetric nose?

I agree with Bruce, it also could have been single seat venom/vampire, but they have a straight lower edge, i believe.

The Vampire seems to be close but not quite

Beaufighter image 2

By: EN830 - 10th March 2004 at 21:33
Scrap my first theory, and also looking at several photos No 2 is not from a Typhoon, and I don’t think it will be from a Beaufighter either.
