Friend of mine is trying to figure out what plane is being called a “German P51” from the film “Sahara”.
Here is the page: http://impdb.org/index.php?title=Sahara_%281943%29
We’re interested in the plane in the top picture.
At first glance the fuselage, tail and wings look very much like a Bf109. But the nose is too long and thin.
Any ideas?

A cropped version of the top photo in the link makes it easier to see that it’s a Mustang or Apache.

Considering the time the film was made, you’ve got to give someone credit for coming up with an aircraft that looks like a Bf-109.
Most films of the period didn’t even try or used (often) bad models.

Here is a cropped version of the top photo in the link. Sabrejet hit the nail on the head with his ID.

I’d forgotten about that model! Good catch!

It is as it says, a P-51 – probably a P-51A (or possibly an A-36 Apache).
