Can you identify these?

Hi everyone,

I need some help identifying some parts. I know that they are probably all turret related. Any ideas?

Please, let me know what you think……

Oh and the third pic is an American mount for either a .50 or .30 cal M2…

Well, the control yoke in the background of the last pic is an Anson type, but you probably know that anyway.

That led me to wonder if the turret controls might be from the Blenheim type Bristol turret that some Ansons had, but they don’t look right – I think I’d go for an american origin.

The curved pieces in the penultimate pic look like slot seals to me – i.e. they rise and fall as the guns elevate to keep draughts out of the cupola.

That gunsight ring is an early reflector type used in fighters – I have one, it worked in conjunction with a N-3 series projector unit mounted below it and the lens slides flat – think early Mustang (T-6 had em) P-40 etc before computing gunsights like the K-14 were fitted (I have a copy of the P-51 pilots notes somewhere which shows the projector mounted below the instrument panel – I still cant see how this would work well with the reflector – surely it would be shaking all over the place)

I doubt this would be for a turret installation as a moving projector beam would be all over the shop if the turret or guns traversed.

Could have been used in eg a gun nosed B-25 or A-26 i suppose…

The two handled controller looks american – I could be completely wrong but i seem to remember something like that in a B-17G – perhaps to control the chin turret?

The penultimate pic….of the curved pieces – not a clue – looks like engine to me – exhaust collector baffle of some sort!

not entirely sure that helps!

Possibly Mike – they are very strange looking items though. Try posting them on the WIX board, if they are US, someone there should know.

Looking at the two large round holes in the base of the shaving mirror (pic1) it seems like it could possibly attach to the top of a gyro gunsight.

Pic nr 1 looks more like a shaving mirror. Not something that could be found in British turrets, which used the Mk IIIA reflector sight. The other pics show turret framing, but look more American to me than British.

Interesting bits though.

All I can say is that Pic 1 is probablypart of a gunsight but more than that I can’t help with. Not sure what type of sights were fitted in gun turrets but that looks as though it belongs in a tail turret, possibly Lanc or Halifax.
