Can you name this airfield please?!!

Yet another request to the excellent fellow “Greatcoats” (Wartime version of anoraks!) out there.

I acquired this photo of a Blenheim Mk1 (I think!) but can’t seem to place the distinctive tower.

Over to you guys!

Thanks guys, RAF Kallang seems fairly conclusive. I knew you could do it!

I’ll dig out another couple of brain bogglers soon!

The hangars are hipped C type, not Belfast truss.

It looks like the civilian tower at Kallang, Singapore. This would fit with the Blenheim and 1939/40 ish look to the photo as several RAF Blenheim Squadrons were based there before the Japanese invasion.

Any Blenheim experts out there want to venture an opinion?

The only L14xx serials for Blenheims were a block of 400+ although I don’t have manufacturing dates, it would appear to be 1938/39 era which tallies in with what has been said.

I’m wondering whether the aircraft itself is a clue.

It’s definately a Blenheim I, but it’s got black painted undersides, so possibly from a Blenheim I bomber Squadron as opposed to fighters? Serial number is L14xx, which is painted under the wings (thereby dating the picture to the immediate pre war months?) and the Squadron members (?) are in tropical dress.

As for the exact location, I haven’t got a clue, but hopefully if we’ve got a Blenheim bomber squadron guru reading this, we might crack it….

My thoghts are as follows:

Chaps are wearing KD so not UK based, but could be a “welcome Home” photo.

Pre-war aircraft and markings (?) so possibly Europe?

Too fancy a terminal to be Middle East.

Apeears to be “Belfast” hangars either side of the terminal.

Further suggestions appreciated

Sorry didn’t look at that (as you probably guessed) I was too interested in the architecture

Look closely, they are wearing shorts – rather rules out the tropical English Northwest.

Definitely a Blenheim MkI. Any possibility it is Speke(Liverpool John Lennon) or Ringway(Manchester)
