Canadian Mosquito Restoration Documentary

“Gaining Altitude – The Mosquito Reborn”
This History Channel documentary about the restoration effort on a Canadian Mosquito (ex-RAF B.35 used by Spartan Air Services) was aired on Australian cable TV this weekend. The film was dated 2014. It had a lot of the usual Mosquito film snippets in operational service, but more “spectacularly” it featured vintage film footage of the Spartan Mosquitos in their distinctive red livery and some recollections by Spartan Air Service pilots and navigators. Some of the Spartan footage is ultra low level flying past the camera. One memorable segment shows the Mosquito flying just below the camera, with the camera on a slightly elevated road embankment. Ground level being an estimated 10-15 ft below the road surface (my guesstimate). The documentary is predominantly about the actual aircraft’s history, the restoration effort and some footage on the first few test flights post-restoration. Don’t know if this has been aired previously on TV elsewhere in the world. Maybe something to keep a lookout for.

Interesting viewing.
