Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Dakota Question.

Hi all,

I had the opportunity to see the CWHM’s Dakota do a few flypasts
on Monday over Canada’s Aviation Museum in Ottawa. But I recall reading about how it’s wing was quite badly damaged after it’s incident with their Lancaster. So my question is did they do source a new wing for the Dak? and whom do they get to repair her? It was great to see her back in the skies again!!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 18-10-02 AT 04:51 PM (GMT)]Thanks for the post Andy. Nice to see the Lanc against some familiar local landmarks.

Maybe I should start getting the paper instead of being cheap and reading it online!! I did notice that the museum had a press release on this, but it was dated October 11, and I’m not generally on their website on a daily basis.

I believe it is only a perspex dome from a martin 250 top turret of which she was originally fitted with when built. It is a shame that they couldn’t install a complete original too much red tape.. :0(

What sort of mid-upper turret does the Lanc have?
I have seen pictures of it and it seems very low down.

Wow they got the dc3 flying…?
They must have gotten a new wing from somewhere pretty quick as the info I was given from cwh was that the wing was a write off and a new one was needed.
Great shots of them both..!

There was a small ad of the event in the Saturday Ottawa Citzen but it was pretty low profile.

Yes I did try to photograph the Lanc but I just didn’t quite manage to get a good shot of the bomber..the sun was not cooperating with me..

Here are a few.

RE: Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Dakota Question.

Thanks for the posting!!

I did not hear about this until after the fact. Needless to say, I was not at the museum, though it is just a short drive away. I was not impressed. The lack of PR on this was a little disappointing, but that’s life.

However, I wondered the same thing about the Dak. In fact my first question was whether or not it was actually the CWH bird, or another one, but obviously it was the CWH one. So any light that could be shed on this would be appreciated by more than just British Canuck.

By the way, did you happen to get any shots of the Lanc as well?

Charles
