The other thread is getting too long , really .
Since everybody is throwing numbers at each other ‘s faces , let ‘s talk about manoeuvrability instead 😎
Canards versus tails …
Well , let ‘s take the benchmark in dogfight : the Viper Blk 25/30 against … the Rafale . (I rate the M2000 higher than the F-16 in dogfight , with this is my opinion)
Here , we really are in one of the most turning and spinning dance one can imagine . The rule (RoE) is canon only . 😮
The contest was in 2008 , just before RedFlag .
The USAF and the AdlA had a bit of fun and both were happy to fly with and against each other .
The video :

(All sparks will burn out , in the end :diablo:)
The French Squadron leader is LtCol Grandclaudon (yes , THE Grandclaudon known for opening his mouth) . We can see him many times in the video .
The Rafales are twin-seaters with some externals fuel tanks which is the usual load at the 1/7 Provence Squadron since it is an A2G orientated Squadron .
First , we can see in the video that the Rafale is flying too fast and tried to use its better energy (2:05 and 2:28 in the video) but it doesn ‘t score .
Then , the French pilots decide to slowdown and take the F-16 on its own ground : stability at high gs .
Look at 2:44 and after 😎
Then at 3:24 .
Look how the lock is kept through very fast roll with a perfect stability 😎
This is done because of the authority given by the canards and a second to none FBW .
After 2 days , the score was 6-2 for the Rafale but the real final score was not released .
*****************
If I could , I would give the AdlA and the MN a HMD because the Rafale would become an aircraft who you don ‘t go dogfight with .
Since it already has a very good missile at medium range , a Rafale with Meteor is very scary .
Manoeuvrability at high Mach is desired too .
The SU-35 and the Typhoon seem to be the best in this regard right now .
The F-15 and the Rafale are not far off … The F-22 is also very good at over 40K feet . The Chinese fighters also are .
Each of these fighters can fire an A2A missile at Mach 1.8+ from very high altitude .
But at that speed , who ‘s turning tighter without loosing too much speed and altitude ?
Response : no one and everybody .
They are all more or less on the par . Few half degree here and there at 80km+ will not change the deal .
What is important is to be able to do both , BVR and WVR .
Cheers .
