Canbera WF922 lights up

Granted, doesn’t look like much of an event to put up here, but all the external lights were on last Saturday evening.

So?

If you’d seen the mess the wiring was in after Marshalls used a chainsaw on the looms, and after the ‘frame had been standing around outside for 30 years . . . it’s quite an achievement. Tip tank nav lights fully working as well as the lowering landing light and anti-colls. And the cockpit/nav’s station has all the instrument lights and instruments working now – including the radio (which is kept tuned to Coventry Tower).

Tried for a “moody” shot here, not too sure it worked though – stacks of noise – but the distinctive Canberra bubble canopy is evident.

Malc’s done a fantastic job of tracing wiring, repairing wire runs, fixing/finding multi-pin plugs and sorting aged circuit breakers. Good job he was a Canberra leccy on 58 Sqn.

Any shots of the beacons in operation?

Had some difficulty getting pix of the anti-colls, this one seems to be best. Have to get more practice in this sort of photography.

All aircraft need to aired out in fresh air once in awhile it does them good! Great job with the lighting restoration work Malcolm. Any shots of the beacons in operation?

Yup, fully repainted, that’s why it’ll weather a few more winters. Desperately need a canopy cover though – anyone out there know where we can get one?

Agree about WWII aircraft, but they should be capable of being wheeled outside for the day during the “season”. Let the air blow the cobwebs away.

Very nice, is she fully repaintednow? I understand what you mean about seeing aircraft outside, i have no complaints as long as they are kept under good conditions, although i don’t like seeing WW2 era aircraft kept outside, way too fragile.

Thanks Mike

Let’s hope it gets a roof over its head some day.

That’ll never happen. But Malc’s got 922 to a state now where it will last a good few more winters. Constant TLC that’s the secret.

Anyway, personally I like seeing kites outdoors. I know all the arguments, but there’s just something “right” about a aircraft sitting under the sky rather than cramped into a corner of some Ikea-like hall somewhere.

Does it need a cushion for the Pilot’s seat? I have one, of the ‘L’ shaped variety – nasty green canvas affair stuffed with what might be straw. It came from a Canberra alright, that I do know.
