Just thought I’d drop in to mention that I just finished up the Osprey Combat Aircraft title “B-57 Canberra Units of the Vietnam War” by T E Bell. In my opinion it was a superb read, and I’d like to recommend it to the other readers of the forum. I’m not sure if anyone else around here has followed this series, but I have quite a few of the books, and I’ve enjoyed just about all of them. This one is certainly a good read. It’s a good comprehensive history on the Canberra’s contributions to the conflict in Vietnam. It even has a chapter about the RAAF’s operations flying the Canberra B.20.
I’ve always had a fascination with the Canberra, and this book filled in a lot of information I never knew. It has some superb first-hand accounts and although primarily focused on the Canberra’s exploits over the Ho Chi Minh trail, it does mention some other operations, such as the recce RB-57E’s that operated under the Patricia Lynn program.
Anyways, I hope some others from here will pick up this title as it was a great read.

re;
It amuses me when kids wont clamber in cockpits, but adults make a bee line for them, and make approriate noises!

Get yourself signed up Sir Phantom!
We have a dedicated paylods thread running in which we have all learned an awful lot, even the seasoned Canberra veterans. You would be made most welcome!
Apologies for “forum drift”..hope it doesn’t contravene too many rules”
I will look the book and give it a read. My finding will be duly de-briefed!
Cheers, Timbo

If you pick it up, let me know what you thought of it after you read it. It was a great read for me, and I learned a lot. I’m a big fan of the Combat Aircraft series, and I was pleased to see them do a title on the Canberra.
Interesting website you linked to…perhaps a place I could learn more about the various Canberra marks? I have many questions especially with regards to the various munitions and stores they carried over the years.

any more?
Chaps, great to see a Canberra thread with a different flavour!
Phantom, thanks for the heads-up on the book, I will look it up!
Paul, do you have any more photo’s of the ’57 you could share? Being a Canberraphile I and my esteemed Canberra Crazy Colleagues would love to see more of your liaison with a B-57 if possible!
We’d be very interested in anything you could share with us over here too…;)

It was fairly spacious, what surprised me the most was the width of the canopy sills – they were about 8 inches wide! There was still compass correction cards etc in their holders.

Was the cockpit spacious or fairly tight?
Looks like the specific model was wiped off the marking…USAF aircraft of the 50’s and early 60’s had the model type usually posted somewhere near the canopy. I can see the “B-57” but there is no prefix or suffix which means it was erased for some reason. At least it looks that way to me.

I think it is an EB-57E, not really sure of the different designations though, pic taken in Australia.

Where was that photo taken?
Is that an EB-57B or perhaps an EB-57C?

Here is a pic of me in a B-57 taken just over a week ago.
