Canon 350D – stops working

I had a problem with my Canon 350D at Hullavington on Sunday – can anyone offer advice ??

I am strictly amateur with photography – so please, no jargon…. 😮

I was happily snapping away at the Great Vintage Flying Weekend show, when, for no reason, the camera stopped working.

I opened the battery compartment, slid out the battery, slid it back in – and all was then OK.

It happened a further couple of times – and each time was fixed by removing and re-fitting the battery.

At no time was the battery exhausted – the camera just ‘went to sleep’

Any ideas?? bad contacts?? camera tired ?? what ??

Cheers

how old is your 350D? it may be worth checking what your firmware version is you can check here http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/eosdigital2/e3kr2_firmware-e.html

i know one of the updates was to do with auto power shut down failure if it was set to more than 2 min

When it went “to sleep”, how long ago did you last use it? The 350D has a power conservation mode that makes the camera go to sleep if you do not use it for some time (to be determined by yourself in the settings menu). All that is required to restart it is to press the shutter button, and wait for a sec or 2.

No, it wasn’t in power conservation mode either – I had just used it seconds before.

Paul..
Was the camera completely dead or did it say ‘Err 99’ on the display?

No display as far as I could see – it just ‘stopped’ – I was focusing, button half-depressed, no audible ‘beep’, no red focus spots – just dead, wouldn’t do anything.

Removing and re-installing the battery fixed it – the battery wasn’t drained either.

I just spoke to my mate who also has an EOS 350D – and the same thing has happened to him a couple of times.

It’s worrying – ‘cos it could happen at a critical moment – but only takes a few seconds to fix – which may be too late for that all-important shot!
