Couple of pictures of TP814. Don’t know the original source of the photographs as I have had them nearly twenty years and they have no details on the back.
Any details on what happened to it ?

Well, at least he could also put “One Me 109 destroyed” in his Log Book. He wouldn’t have been shooting a line!

It’s hard not to see that and think “Here’s one I made earlier”!

Many thanks Andy 😉

Strudwick may well have been the original source of my photo.

And thank you, hlt, for that information.
Photo was taken by F/O Strudwick who was unit photographer

Andy – can we reproduce the crash shot in post #21 over on the LEMB please? Usual credit for its source will be garnished with gay abandon 😉
Cheers

What are the details of the book?
A Google search does not seem to bring anything up.
A Very Unusual Air War published by The History Press
I just googled Len Thorne AFDU – that worked

hlt….you can ignore my earlier messages as I had wrongly assumed you to be related to Lt H Prenzel.
I am sure these photographs will be familiar to you!
By coincidence, I spent last weekend with Capt Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown who also flew this aircraft before its mishap.

Yes that’s the one

Perhaps he is referring to the AFDU incident at Wittering?

Edit: crossed posting!

He was the Afdu pilot not Axis – sorry for any confusion. His log book and diaries have just been published and there is more detail about the incident in the book :):)

It was my grandfather who was the pilot of this plane when it crashed!!!!!!!
Blimey, did he mention anything to you about his wartime exploits ,it is very rare to hear from the Axis sides. If you care to pass on any stories i know i would be among quite a few willing to read, Thanks 🙂
