Some months ago the decision to mothball all the JAS-39A/B was announced as a cost cutting iniciative by the Swedish government, this move would entail the removal of service of roughly half of the current Gripen world fleet. Could this move be seen as the involuntary “death blow” to the building of new airframes for export once these older aircraft would be offered for sale to other countries by the Air Force in effect competing with new build Gripens by SAAB?
Add on top of that the severe lack of success in obtaining large (over 50) foreign orders for this airplane?
