Car HID Conversion Kits

Morning all,

Has anyone installed these kits on their vehicle? I’m not a fan of the standard halogen bulbs that come standard with the car. I’ve also used these Xenon bulbs which give the blue/white ‘HID look’ but nothing like the real thing….

I’ve seen literally hundreds of these kits going on eBay ranging from around £50-£100 so aside the concerns purchasing online has anyone used and got an effective kit…? They seem really simple to fit.

I’m no pikey or chav wanting to add the latest mod to his car, far from it :D. I just want the modern Range Rover/BMW/Audi look for my Peugeot 407 :diablo:.

Cheers

These guys seem like a good outfit, although which ones do I go for!? Might give them a ring in the morning. My only worry is fitting them and me somehow screwing it up :D.

and i have not had to use main beam since I fitted them to either car.

That is the statemant that worried me a little Ben !
Even though my dips are quite bright…there is a definite cut off height/angle on low beam,I have to use main beam when required.
Aren’t you supposed to have self levelling headlights and headlight wash with a hid bulb ??

Ben usually HID lights need a ballast.

Well these eBay kits do come with them :).

I have a 1994 Nissan Sunny in pristine condition, and hardly driven because I am never there. Is there a kit for that car?

nope, the kits that I bought just were replacement bulbs that go on the end of the current headlight wiring loom 🙂

Well in that link the HID kit has a Kelvin temp of 12000k, although others are available going down to about 6000k. I do like the hint of blue though but as with my experience of xenon bulbs which were 8000k the amount of useable light went down.

Although that link doesn’t state it’s legal, the vast majority of the kits on there do state they have the various certifications to say they are road legal.

edit…looking at the ebay item,I am not sure if just replacing the bulb is a good idea, are ‘proper’ hid reflectors always a very different design to avoid too much dazzle for oncoming drivers ? My hid unit on the vec is very different to a standard unit.

This is a very good question bazv, as you say I don’t know if the standard plastic headlight units are suitable.

Nashio966, presumably you didnt modify or change the headlight units? I’ll have to look into that.

Thats been the contents of my two kits. two bulbs, two digital ballasts and the wiring etc. That said im sure someone said (as you mentioned) that HID kits arent actually legal?

I have 6000k bulbs in my vectra (just upgrade from standard HID).
Is there a good Pug owners club ?You might get good info if there is.
istr the consensus on the vvoc was not to go above 6000k as you lose usable light power above that (too blue).

Im not entirely sure but i think that it has to be a certain heat (not entirely sure)

Both times ive fitted 8000k (practically pure white light)

I took some photo’s in the car as a before and after, Ill see if i can dig them out!

HID Heat Scale Below 🙂

Anyone else with any other input/use of these kits/where to buy very much appreciated :D.

did mine over the afternoon, I bought the kit for my S14 from H-Dev and that was a really easy one to install i found the civic to be trickier (imho the kit wasnt as good) but the end result was the same. If its a good kit it should go in fairly straight forward 🙂

Thanks for the quick answer Nashio966 :), any recommendations about where to purchase them from? Are they as easy to fit as the videos on YouTube make out?!

Any other advice would be great too.

Thanks 😀

I Fitted HID kits to my old 200sx S14a and have just fitted them to my Type R Civic and the difference in light and quality of light is unbelieveable!!!

Ive not had to use main beam since I fitted them to either car. I paid about £60 both times 🙂
