Car park charity Wasp XT788 – fraud trial; defendant banged to rights.

Following on from this recent thread…

http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?122842

…the former owner of XT788 Chris Copeland (and ceo of Xray Tango Helicopter Club) has appeared in court for fraud charges for the monies obtained under his ‘charity’ collections in recent years. You may have seen more recent collections using a fleet of ex-MOD Land Rover forward control 101’s and a Bedford MK lorry, all emblazoned with Help for Heroes titles and selling merchandise. None of which ever reached (it is alleged) Help for Heroes or any other charity…….

He was released on bail and the case referred to crown court for trial commencing in July ’13. He denies all charges !!

I imagine a similar or lesser outcome for a case at the moment involving fundraising to save something

Could we stick to the topic please?

Whilst I understand that there is an issue with the ‘Black Mike’ fundraising, it is not for us to name and shame on here.

A permanent posting to one of the many experimental drug trials units would seem to fit the bill?

I didn’t suggest that he wouldnt ever get a job -however fraud on the CV isn’t going to work for most employers!

As to a home – if he is striped of that – do you for one second think that the benefits won’t be coming up with the goods?

Fraud is a massive problem for him, no insurer will insure anyone convicted of fraud so he may have to walk to his job

One hopes the asset stripping does not include the helicopter that I believe now has a secure museum life. Especially as it is now probably worth more than it originally was due to the amount of helicopter parts donated to this supposedly “Good Cause”, myself included being a donator. Which I do not mind if it is safe now in a museum.

So the state has to support him for the rest of his life?

Why does it have to be for the rest of his life?

What’s your alternative suggestion for dealing with ex prisoners who can’t get a job?

And yes this should be in general discussion.

Prisons already have work schemes which mean prisoners can earn effectively pocket money. I am not a great believer in ‘work gangs’ – however there must be a tangiable way in which he can recompense ‘Help for Heroes’ and the public who thought their money was going to charity.

Whilst I’m not in favour of a general adoption of American ideas I do feel that people who end up in prison should be formed into ditching or litter picking gangs in bright orange boilersuits and made to work for a living whilst they are inside.

I hope the public sees this as a one off and still continues to give to ex service charities as they have done in the past.

That’s the thing with this type of crime it tarnishes charities in general, not just H4H.

Or sell his assets and give the proceeds to the very charity he attempted to deprive?

Bunsen – going to prison means he didn’t get away with it ! His liberty has a value to him – he has been deprived of it! In terms of criminality – he shows little or no sign of being a calculating criminal otherwise he would have gone to far greater efforts to conceal what he was doing !

Whilst I applaud that justice has been done – I hope that some means can he employed so that he can make some kind if material recompense rather than rot in a cell.
