Hi everybody, can someone help me with the composition (Squadrons, and what types of aircrafts) forms the CVW 17 currently embarked on CVN-73?
I have search on internet but didn’t find anything for this question, because the most complete link (globalsecurity) talks about one old VF (Tomcat) Squadron as part of the wing.
Thanks a lot for any comment.

VFA-103 is currently on CVW-7 and VFA-11 is flying with CVW-3. In fact CVW-3 has two squadrons of F Super Hornets (VFA-11 and 32) plus VFA-105 (E model).
VFA-103 is currently embarked on USS George Washington on an exercise on the coast of Rio de Janeiro (Exercise Unitas)
Is it only a matter of time until we see a all Super Hornet Wing???

CVW-17 currently consists of 5 strike fighter squadrons. Red Rippers and Jolly Rodgers fly super bugs. Blue Blasters, Sunliners and Rampagers fly baby bugs. This is one of the more potent air wings with around 60 strike fighters embarked.
There are also 4 E-2Cs, 4 EA6Bs, 6 Seahawk helicopters, and a detachment of C2 Greyhounds. The Viking detachment was recently disbanded. Yeah, I know, who is doing ASW? 6 Seahawks is not enough ASW for a carrier.

These squadrons are always changing, from one carrier to another, especially when you realize that there are one less carrier air wing than there are aircraft carriers. Why? One of the nuclear powered carriers is at Newport News shipyard being refueled, at which time the carrier goes through a long refit too. While what maybe true today won’t be tommorrow, or in a year. Frankly, while there are those who know what the current situation is, not many of us bother.
When the carriers are home in American waters, their aircraft fly to their home naval air stations. They lose their identity with the carriers quickly. If one air squadron isn’t up to snuff, another that is replaces it.
