That’s what I get for looking at my copy of Jane’s Fighting Ships very late at night (actually early morning) while already running on too little sleep!
(and not actually reading the captions as I copied the photos)

Thanks for the nudge & correction.

“CVN-72 George Washington, CVN-76 Ronald Reagan.”

CVN 72 is the Abraham Lincoln, CVN 73 is the GW.

CVN-72 George Washington, CVN-76 Ronald Reagan.

The small wake behind the Kitty shows a speed of 10-15 knots.

Hardly a race, but an amusing thought, none-the-less.

Of course, if one of the two reactors on the CVNs scrams for some reason, they would be limited to ~25 knots max, while the loss of one of Kitty’s 8 boilers would only reduce her from 33 knots to ~30-31 knots.

All you nautical types please excuse my ignorance (im into the things that sit ON carrier decks) but isnt one a non nuke (CV-63 USS ??) and one a nuke? (CVN-76 Carl Vinson?) so wouldnt the nuke ship woop the conventional ship in a drag race?
I know this is a very important question so if someone could convince USN to remove all aircraft and stage some time trials between its carriers, it would be much appreciated….

It was a joke. The Kitty Hawk (63) appears to be in the lead but I’m sure it’s just where it happened to be. I kinda doubt they race carriers 🙂 And there are three carriers in the photo.

The three carriers were assembled for an exercise.

Dignitaries and military personnel from two countries were guests. Australia and China.

Given that Australia and the US are as close militarily as you can get and still be different countries, I don’t think the exercise was aimed at them.

China, well thats a different story.

Given the Pentagon’s latest reports highlighting China’s perceived intent to dominate the littorial out to beyond the Philipines and Japan to nullify USN power projection capabilities, the message was delivered loud and clear.

The inclusion of the B2 was a nice touch as well, a reminder that the US can deliver ordinance unopposed to any location on earth in less than 24 hours.

Goddamn. . .you don’t suppose they’re trying to send anybody a message do you?

Maybe just a little message saying “There’s more where that came from”. :dev2:

The SHs look pretty good. They’re no Tomcats in the looks department but I like them anyway.

The one with less Super Hornets on the deck wins. 😀
