Many years back I hired a book from library (can’t remember name of book or author!) that was full of pictures of derelict aircraft around the world. One picure I remember in particular was of a Dominicana Carvair that had been converted into a cafe/restaurant. Anyone able to shed light on this and whether it still exists? if so, where?
Cheers
Jamie

JS:
The approximate date is mid-January 1984 (do not recall the exact date).
As for the second part of your question, I could not say, because I have not been back to the DR ever since.
Saludos,
Tulio

Stephen Piercey’s book SKY TRUCK shows a Dominicana Carvair being dismantled in 1978, then relocated to Santo Domingo where parts of the aircraft,as well as some buses, were to become a cafateria. Text says it had not opened by 1983. Registration not stated.

I think if i remember right there were 2 Dominicana Carvairs, HI-172 and i think HI-168.
168 crashed at Miami in 1969, with 4 fatalities and was distroyed i think, but 172 was withdrawn from use in stored in Santo Domingo in 1978.
