Hi all, I dont know if this has been covered before but does anyone know what happened to the Casa 2.111’s that were in the film “Battle of Britain”. Are there still any flying ?

It is not under restoration, and has been stored for some years. The spars are in appalling condition.

Is that likely… i thought it was reported to of having serious corrosion issues.?
I have mentioned this in previous posts but when the ex Southend CASA was being worked on at North Weald around 10 years ago Ray Thomas told me there were serious corrosion problems with the spars. I have an idea they even did some beefing up to make sure the wings would be OK for static display.
Nothing is impossible but if anyone was looking for a flyer I would have thought that sadly (for G-AWHB) there must be better airframes around to use as a starting point than this one.

I remember reading about one that is being converted to Jumo power for Paul Allen’s collection, but no idea which one-and he’s not well at all

The last 2.111 to actually fly in the UK would be Doug Arnold’s G-BDYA, in 1977…unless someone knows otherwise?

Yes I am sure your right, the next flyer would have been the one Neil Williams was delivering that very sadly did not make it. The Duxford one was flown in but slung beneath a helicopter so that does not count.

It is reported G-AWHB (ex-Southend, North Weald, Sandtoft, North Cotes) is under restoration to fly in Norfolk, but will head State side.

The CAF lost one in a fatal crash back in 2003 – was this an ex BoB aircraft?

http://www.preservedaxisaircraft.com contains a list of all surviving Casa 2.111 and their (previous) identities.
None of them fly anymore.
Hi Kenneth, a real shame none of them are airworthy, the warbird scene could do with some of these being put back in the air !!
