Castle Bromwich Photos.

For some reason I have never seen a huge number of photographs of the old aerodrome at Castle Bromwich. Although it was closed in the 1950’s, it started as an RFC aerodrome, was home then to one of, if not the oldest aeroclubs (MAC.) in the UK, saw activity in air-racing between the wars, as well as being an RAF Station. During the last war it also saw very heavy use for the testing of the aircraft built at the adjacent VACBAF. Yet…..apart from a few photos in books, I’ve only seen a small handful of photos. I’d love to see any photographs, but particularly of the notorious ‘Contact Races’, which were closed-down for ‘safety reasons’…..!

It’s long been built-over, and there are only small fragments of evidence left. Castle Bromwich is one of many airfields with a fascinating history to be lost to us, but it’s history was especially interesting.
